The Iowa State Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness, or BIEDA, is teaming up with Iowa State alum Lani Tons in bringing her Become The Change event to campus.

BIEDA and Become The Change will be hosting Body Warriors Yoga Saturday in front of Curtiss Hall from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The event will include yoga and conversations about body positivity, confidence and eating disorders. on Central Campus in front of Curtiss. The event is free and open to the public.

“The reason for this event is to spread awareness about eating disorders and body confidence amongst the communities around the world,” said Tons.

She also stressed the fact that they need a lot of people to show up to this event to help hold signs, with encouraging statements, a staple of the Become The Change events in other cities. Participants hold signs with statements about body positivity, individuality and recovery.

Become The Change spawned not just from the need to have conversations about body positivity and eating disorder awareness, but from the creator’s own life. During her time at Iowa State, Tons spent time at a treatment facility for an eating disorder. It was in that facility where her passion for recovery grew, and she wanted to help others reach recovery as well.

“It’s one thing to go to a traumatic experience, it is another thing to make something out of it,” Tons said. “The thing I made out of mine was Become The Change.”
