After upsetting No. 8 Creighton on Saturday night, Iowa State looked to build off that success on Sunday against Wichita State.

The Cyclones accomplished that, beating the Shockers 3-0 (25-21, 37-35, 25-23).

Iowa State’s momentum from the previous night’s victory carried through to the first set against Wichita State.

The two teams were tied at 20 late in the first set. Junior and senior outside hitters Jess Schaben and Genesis Miranda combined for three points to seal the set.

Iowa State appeared to lose some of its steam in the second set, trailing 18-14. The Cyclones stormed back, rattling of four straight points to tie it at 18. The set was just getting started.

Each team went back-and-forth with the Shockers holding a 35-34 lead. A Schaben kill tied the score up.

A kill by freshman middle blocker Avery Rhodes, followed by a kill from redshirt senior right side Samara West, preserving the set for the Cyclones.

After a wild second set, Iowa State jumped out to an 8-3 lead early in the third set. The Shockers fought back to take a 16-14 lead. Iowa State answered, scoring seven out of the next eight points.

Iowa State’s momentum was too much to overcome for Wichita State; the Cyclones finished the weekend 2-0.
