It took over a year, but highly touted defensive tackle Kamilo Tongamoa is finally a Cyclone

Tongamoa, a Merced Community College transfer, was cleared by the NCAA on Thursday, allowing the big man to enroll at Iowa State and slowly work his way into football practices.

The California native had 80 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, nine sacks and two forced fumbles as a CCAA first-team All-American at the junior college level. He chose the Cyclones over Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Oregon and Texas.

He was the gold star on Matt Campbell’s recruiting class, but will most likely not see any action until the end of September or early October.

Tongomoa, standing at 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds, will be a redshirt junior and have two years of eligibility with the Cyclones.
