New phase of Lincoln Way construction to begin Monday

LINCOLN WAY STOCK

The second phase of the project to widen a section west of Lincoln Way will begin Monday and is expected to last four to six weeks while the entire project is projected to be completed in October.

Construction will take place on the south side of Lincoln Way, west of Franklin Avenue, according to a City of Ames press release. The road will be widened from four lanes to five from South Wilmoth and Franklin Avenues.

The outside lane for eastbound Lincoln Way traffic will be closed during the first in second phases, but the two lanes westbound will remain open.

Intersection improvements and a new traffic sign are included in this phase of construction.

The Lincoln Way widening project, for which the City of Ames contracted Con-Struct Inc., is following a phased approach, the first of which began in July, the press release said. The first phase included widening the south outside lane of west Lincoln Way between South Wilmoth and Franklin Avenues.

The third phase includes construction on the intersection and northbound approach of West Lincoln Way and Franklin Avenue, modifications to the traffic signal.

Once the south side of Lincoln Way is complete, a phased approach will then begin on the north side.

This staging plan was meant to minimize impacts on property owner access, according to the press release.
