Just like their previous two games during the Cyclone Invitational, the Iowa State women’s volleyball team would easily defeat and sweep their opponent, who was the New Mexico Lobos this time around.

Early in the first set, Iowa State was met with a back-and-forth battle between New Mexico. But once the score became 5-5, it was all Cyclones.

Iowa State built a five point lead and would never relinquish it. At one point in the set, the Cyclones were up by eight points.

Iowa State’s dominant first set could really be attributed to Grace Lazard’s outstanding play. In the first, Lazard recorded six kills and a .714 hitting percentage.

Once the second set came around, Lazard cooled off. But the Cyclones did not.

Just like the first set, it was a back-and-forth contest between Iowa State and New Mexico. But after a 8-8 tie, it was all Cyclones.

The largest lead Iowa State amassed in the second set was six. Alexis Conaway and Hannah Bailey led the way for the Cyclones in the second, with four and three kills respectively.

In the third and final set, it was all Iowa State.

After building a 17-10 lead, the Cyclones scored eight straight points to complete the sweep and finish off the Cyclone Invitational with a perfect 3-0 record.

Iowa State would finish the match with 45 kills, four aces and eight blocks.

The Cyclones will return to the court on Friday, Sept. 1, when they travel to Dayton, Ohio to participate in the Dayton Invitational.
