Here are the top 5 stories from the past week:
1. Football team begins fall practice– The Iowa State football team began fall practice on Monday. Matt Campbell, head coach of the team, discussed the team during a meeting with the press following the first day of practice. Campbell discussed the hard work the team has put in during the off-season and the excitement the team has felt over a few of the new players joining the squad.
2. $2.1 million project discussed at BOR meeting– A $2.1 million project to revamp the recreational fields east of Maple-Willow Larch has been discussed by the Board of Regents. The plan includes installing irrigation and providing lighting. The project would be funded by Recreational Services.
3. Steve Prohm hosts basketball reunion– Steve Prohm hosted a reunion for all of the formal Iowa State basketball players on Friday and Saturday. Prohm hosted a similar event when he was coaching at Murray State. Around 90 former players were in attendance, including former head coach Fred Hoiberg and former Indiana Pacer Georges Niang.
4. CyRide turn-around at Towers to be discussed by City Council– A new CyRide turn-around will be discussed at this week’s City Council meeting. The turn-around would be part of the Gold Route which is a proposed route that would start running in the fall of 2018. It would take place in the area that houses Storms Dining Center, as well as Wallace and Wilson residence halls.
5. New head softball coach named– Iowa State named the new head softball coach on Wednesday morning. Jamie Pinkerton, previous assistant coach at Iowa State, has been chosen for the head coach position. He was just recently the head coach at Montana.
