1. ISU football duo receives All Big-12 honors– Allen Lazard and Kamari Cotton-Moya, ISU football players, were selected to be part of the 2017 Preseason All-Big 12 Football Team. Both players have proved to be vital parts of the team. Following the 2016 season, Lazard was chosen for First-Team All-Big 12 honors and Cotton-Moya was chosen for Second-Team honors.
2. Abdel Nader signs contract with Boston Celtics– Abdel Nader, former ISU basketball player, officially signed a four-year contract with the Boston Celtics on Friday. After being pushed to the Celtics’ D-League affiliate last season, Nader ended up being selected as the D-League Rookie of the Year and is consistent play landed him an official spot for the Celtics.
3. ISU Startup Factory to host 11 new start-ups– The first 10 companies have graduated from the Iowa State University Startup Factory and now 11 more start-ups are ready to take their place. These start-up companies will receive formal training, resources and access to business mentors, advisors, counselors and investors to help them through the process. The factory offers a 52-week intensive program for these companies.
4. Iowa State alumni basketball to play in tournament– The Basketball Tournament (TBT) started this weekend and former Cyclones were a part of all the action. This is the first year that ISU has put together a team and played in the tournament. The team won their first game on Saturday with a score of 91-87.
5. LGBTQIA+ theme house to open in Maple Hall– Maple Hall will have a new house this upcoming fall called “Spectrum.” Spectrum is “a housing community for students interested in building an intentional, inclusive community for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, asexual, and ally (LGBTQIA+) people,” according to the Department of Residence website.
