Firefly Country Nights to kick off this weekend

Olivia Hason

Firefly Country Nights hosts Jana Kramer and opener, Jon Langston at the Ames Bandshell at 500 Duff, Ave. on Saturday July 14 at 5 p.m.

Concert goers will also be able to enjoy BBQ, beer, lemonade, ice cream and much more on Ames’s Main Street Cultural District.

All ages will be able to purchase general admission tickets. There are also party pit passes for anyone 21 and over, which will allow people to get access to a premium viewing area right in the front of the stage.

Jana Kramer has within three years taken over the country music scene as one of the newest, fastest, rising stars in the industry. “Why Ya Wanna,” Kramer’s platinum debut single went straight to the top of the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart as No. 3 in 2012, which made her the most played artist of the year. In 2013, she earned the Top New Female Artist Award from the Academy of Country Music after her self-titled album hit No. 5 on the charts. Kramer is now up for the Female Vocalist of the Year award for 2017.

Jon Langston, who opens for Kramer, is a rising artist on the country scene. A Georgia-native, has always loved music and even played in a band in eighth grade. In the beginning, Langston didn’t have much of an interest in pursuing a career in the music industry. He played football in high school, which got him a scholarship in 2009 to play at Gardner-Webb University in North Carolina. By the time Langston was a junior in college, he had suffered multiple concussions, leading him to quit football and pick up the guitar again. He then began to write his own original songs and then post them to Youtube. From there, it was a fast road of getting many viewers and eventually picking up gig after gig.

On September 8, Firefly Country Nights will be hosting their second and final concert of the year with country music star Canaan Smith, at 5:00 p.m., also at Ames Bandshell.
