Here are the top 5 stories from the past week:
1. Fourth of July in Ames– Many people around Ames celebrated the Fourth of July holiday this past week. Both a parade and fireworks took place around the holiday. Our opinion editor at the Iowa State Daily wrote a column on the new fireworks law that was in effect during the holiday.
2. Wide receiver announces decommitment– Sterling Galban, recent football commit, announced his decommittment to Iowa State via Twitter. This leaves the team with 11 verbal commits for the 2018 class. Galban’s decommitment comes after another decommitment from C.J. Bolar, a wide receiver from Mississippi.
3. Midnight Madness returns to Ames– The annual Midnight Madness Run/Walk took place in Downtown Ames this weekend. There was both a 5K and 10K race that took place. The night ended with an after party for everyone in attendance.
4. Breakdown of the Iowa State football team– Our sports editor continued his “breakdown” series with a breakdown of the offensive line and tight ends. Marner says that with the return of many solid players along with some fresh, new faces, this year’s offensive line is expected to be better than last year’s.
5. Review of bands in Ames this past weekend– Three local bands; Black Lodge/White Lodge, Mountain Eats Mountain and Photo Mother Murder Tree rocked Ames this weekend at DG’s Tap House. Our reporter broke down the performances and gave her own review of the night.
