Here are the top 5 stories from the past week:
1. Iowa State softball coach leaving for Minnesota– Jamie Trachsel is leaving Iowa State to be the new head softball coach at the University of Minnesota. Trachsel coached one whole year at Iowa State, ending with a 23-35 record for the 2017 season. Players weighed in on the departure of Trachsel.
2. Lincoln Way pedestrian safety study shows behavior is the problem– A study shows that behavior is the biggest problem regarding safety concerns on Lincoln Way. Geometrics, sight distance and lighting of the area actually all comply with current design guidelines and are not the problem, according to the project consultant’s report. The pedestrian use on Lincoln Way was discussed at this past week’s city council meeting.
3. Men’s basketball non-conference schedule released– The men’s basketball non-conference schedule was released on Thursday. The schedule includes 12 games, including the Cy-Hawk rivalry game on December 7 which will take place at Hilton Coliseum this year.
4. Salo weighs in, movers take over Ames following lease-gap issue– Megan Salo, opinion editor for the Iowa State Daily, weighed in on the lease-gap issue. Salo points out all of the issues regarding the lease-gaps and explains that it’s a lot of work to fix it but should be fixed. Many students spent this weekend moving out of their current apartment and into their new place, wherever that may be.
5. Ames MSCD named one of Iowa’s Great Places– The Ames Main Street Cultural District was named one of Iowa’s Great Places by the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs. The MSCD received this honor along with the Council Bluffs’ Haymarket Area and Burlington’s downtown riverfront, as well as Appanoose County and the Turkey River Recreational Corridor being re-designated.
