Seminar: Harnessing the Right Whys

Iowa State Lectures program brings Dr. Michelle Segar, PhD, MPH, to come present a seminar on methods for driving sustainable behavior and changing them. The seminar will take place in room 1226 of the College of Veterinary Medicine on Friday, July 28 at 12 p.m.
Segar is is Director of the Sport, Health, and Activity Research and Policy Center at the University of Michigan, and is the Chair of the U.S. National Physical Activity Plan’s Communications Committee.
She is also the author of the book “No Sweat! How the Simple Science of Motivation Can Bring You a Lifetime of Fitness,” which, when released, was the No. 1 exercise and fitness book on Amazon, and in 2015 was awarded the No. 1 Diet/Exercise book by the USA Best Book Awards.
For over two decades, Segar has altered the conversation in the field of diet and exercise on how we view the motivations of people and why people choose to obtain and keep healthy behaviors with evidence-based ideas. Her award winning research has provided new ways of changing behavior in the diet, exercise, and wellness areas.
Some consultants of hers include: Google, Adidas, Walmart, The University of Vermont Medical Center, Harvard University, Anytime Fitness and Beaumont Health Systems.
Segar has also been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, Fast Company, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Huffington Post and more.
Segar has a doctorate in Psychology and master’s degrees in Health Behavior/Health Education and Kinesiology from the University of Michigan.
Fun Fact: Segar ran with the Olympic Torch at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
