National Night Out returns Tuesday

This year’s National Night Out will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Bandshell Park and will feature giveaways, rides, games, free food, tours and more. As with each year, the Ames Police Foundation will hand out backpacks and school supplies for local children.

Candidate for Fourth District stops in Ames

JD Scholten, who announced his candidacy for Iowa’s Fourth District congressional seat, made his first Ames campaign stop of the season at London Underground. He will run against incumbent Steve King.
“My dad is from Larchwood and my mom is from Lake Mills and they met in Mason City, and I was born in Ames and raised in Sioux City,” Scholten said. “If you look at a map, that’s basically the (Fourth District) quadrant.”
