Ames local residents gathered at Octagon Center for the Arts for the opening for the “Digital Dreams of You” Exhibit that featured artwork of Jes Lee on July seventh.

Jes Lee, an artist from Minnesota, has exhibited in Minnesota and select exhibitions in other Midwestern states. She has artwork in permanent collections in the Minnesota Historical Society, the Hennepin County Public Library, the Fredrick R. Weisman Museum and other public and private collections.

Lee’s work was created using the process of Photopolymer Photogravure, which is a historic process and a hands-on and tactile. The photographic images were digitally printed onto a transparent film. The film was used to expose the image onto a photopolymer plate. The image was etched into the plate, and finally the plate was inked and used to print the image using an etching press.

Lee used layering as an essential component of her work. She used layers to express how time overlaps, how the stories intertwine, and how people are all connected. When she walked through her neighborhoods or travelled to other countries, she found the inspirations behind the layers. In Lee’s work, she brought two far-away places together, two different days into the same image.

Jessica, a visitor from north of Ames described Lee’s work, “I love her work, it is amazing! She put different pieces together and merged them very well! This is a fantastic exhibit!”

This exhibit opened on July seventh and will run until August 10. A closing reception will be held on August 10, 5-7 p.m. at the Octagon Center for the Arts.
