Ames police investigate armed robbery of ATM on Welch

According to a release from Ames Police, a man withdrawing money from an ATM on Welch Avenue was robbed at gunpoint Wednesday night.

At approximately 8:46 p.m. on July 26, officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at the ATM, which is located on the 100 block of Welch Avenue. The victim reported he took money out of the ATM when he was approached by a man with a gun.

According to the victim, the man pointed a handgun at his head and demanded the money. 

The victim described the man to police as a black male adult in his twenties, approximately 6 foot 1 inches tall, with a muscular build. The victim said another light skinned male, approximately 6 foot 2 inches tall, slender, with a black backwards baseball cap, stood a short distance away.

The two men the victim described left together in a black sedan. The victim was unharmed.
