The Ames municipal band to present fifth concert of the season

In honor of Independence Day festivities, the Ames Municipal Band will be putting on a patriotic show for their fifth concert of the season at the Bandshell Park this Thursday at 8 p.m.
The night’s pre-show entertainment will be the Ames Choral Society, directed by Steven Hoifeldt.
The night will feature several sing-along moments with vocalist Cynthia Marten and members of the Ames Choral Society. “The Ultimate Patriotic Sing Along” includes the “Battle Hymn of the Republic;” “America, the Beautiful” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”
The night will also include Irving Berlin’s “Songs for America” (“This is the Army, Mr. Jones;” “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor;” “This is a Great Country”; “God Bless America.”)
The concert will continue with “Semper Fidelis” and “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Philip Sousa, “Goin’ Home” by Anton Dvorak, an “Armed Forces Medley” and Samuel Ward’s arrangement of “America the Beautiful.”
Next week, for the sixth show of the summer, The Blue Moon Group will provide pre-show entertainment. Chris Johnson will appear as vocalist and Heather Imhoff will perform a piccolo solo.
