Cummings found guilty of voluntary manslaughter

A jury has found Candace Cummings guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the October 2016 shooting death of her husband. Cummings faces up to 10 years in prison when she’s sentenced on July 17. Cummings had originally been charged with first-degree murder and faced a mandatory sentence of life in prison without parole.

Two arrested in connection with Ames convenience store robberies

One was arrested last week for a separate robbery, that occurred at the west Ames Swift Stop, at 3406 Lincoln Way, in late March, where he allegedly stole money, Newport cigarettes and Swisher Sweet cigarillos. He was also charged with a third count of first-degree robbery for his alleged involvement with a late May robbery at the same Swift Stop.

5K Hope Run for Hospice

The 5K Hope Run, organized by Mary Greeley Medical Center, was Saturday, June 17. More than 600 people participated in the walk and run event, including 337 people who participated in the 5K run. The proceeds from the run support Mary Greeley Medical Center Hospice.
