Iowa State volleyball head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch announced the finalized schedule for the 2017 season Wednesday. A tough road lies ahead of the Cyclones who will be hosting 13 matches, including six 2016 NCAA championship teams and one non-conference home tournament.
Iowa State will kick off the season at Hilton Coliseum for the fourth-straight season, beginning Friday, August 25 at 6:30 p.m. against Kent State. That will be quickly followed by a doubleheader the next day, August 26, against Omaha and New Mexico.
After the home stand Iowa State then heads on the road for two straight tournaments. Iowa State will face two NCAA Tournament teams at the Dayton Invitational (September 1, 7 p.m.) followed by Pittsburgh (September 2, 1:30 p.m.). The Cyclones then head to Iowa City for the Iowa Invitational (September 8, 7 p.m.).
The Cyclones will host the annual matchup against Northern Iowa Tuesday, September 12. The Panthers made it to the NCAA Volleyball Championship last year for the second-straight season in Cedar Falls.
The schedule for the final non-conference tournament, held at Wichita State on September 15-17, will be announced at a later date. The Shockers, who won the Missouri Valley last season, will host the tournament and attempt to solidify their name in the American Athletic Conference in 2017.
Iowa State will kick off the Big 12 season September 23 at Hilton Coliseum against Oklahoma at 4 p.m. The Cyclones’ first Big 12 test away from home will come against defending Big 12 champion Kansas on Wednesday, September 27.
October will prove to be a monumental month for the Cyclones, full of home matches and challenges against seven NCAA Tournament teams from last season.
NCAA National Runner-Up Texas will face Iowa State on October 21, at 1 p.m. promptly countered by the fun of Cyclone Family Weekend’s match against TCU (October 21, 1 p.m.) and the home match against Kansas (October 28, TBA).
November will be notable for Iowa State, hosting Texas on November 11. Last year Iowa State won the matchup with the No. 5 Longhorns in five sets at Hilton.
Saturday, November 25 at 2 p.m. closes out the home schedule and regular season for Iowa State on Senior Night with a match up against Texas Tech.
Season ticket information will be released at a later date.
