Iowa State freshman second baseman Sami Williams was named to the All-Big 12 first team Wednesday.

Williams recorded a .382 batting average in 2017 and led the Cyclones in home runs, RBIs and slugging percentage.

Williams’ 19 doubles set a new Iowa State program record and ranked No. 1 nationally among college freshmen. Only three players nationwide hit more doubles than Williams.

Williams was also named to the All-Freshman team. She is one of three freshmen to be named All-Big 12 first team.

Williams joins Lindsey Herrin as the only two newcomers in Iowa State history to be named All-Big 12 first team.

Iowa State has used Williams’ hitting to win five consecutive Big 12 games to end the season.
