A time to honor: Memorial Day weekend in Ames

Memorial Day is a time to remember those who served in the armed forces, and those who gave their lives defending the freedoms of the United States. The city of Ames is hosting a few events in honor of the holiday. Read up on them here:

Monday, May 29 

Memorial Day Parade

10:30 A.M.

The annual parade will start at City Hall in downtown Ames, and will proceed down Clark Avenue going north, then along Ninth Street going east and will conclude at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. 

Memorial Service

11 A.M.

After the conclusion of the parade, a memorial service will be held at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Mayor Ann Campbell will give the welcome and Ames resident Aaron Rosheim will be the featured speaker. Following the ceremony, American Legion Post No. 37 will host a lunch at 225 Main Street in downtown Ames. 

Memorial Day Ceremony 

9 A.M.

Reiman Ballroom, Alumni Center, 420 Beach Avenue

This ceremony is free and will honor Iowa State employees, alumni and friends who have passed away in the last year, and will be a time to remember and share memories of these loved ones.
