Iowa State (7-4) hosts the North Alabama Lions (9-2) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at Hilton Coliseum. North Alabama is a team that is red hot as of late, making the Lions a team Iowa State can’t afford to overlook. 

North Alabama has won its last six games in a row by a combined margin of 217 points (36 points per game).

Four of North Alabama’s six wins in its current winning streak have come in games played outside of Alabama.

The Lions are only in its second season at the division one level and have a 30-11 record at the division one level.

North Alabama’s two losses this season came against the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City, Iowa by five points and against the Samford Bulldogs in Florence, Alabama, by 16 points.

This season, the Lions are averaging 90.8 points per game, while only allowing 59.1 points per game. Meanwhile, the Cyclones are averaging 76.2 points per game and allow 61.5 points per game.

For the Cyclones to stop the Lions offensive attack, they must stop the Lions’ Wallen twins from scoring.

Twin sisters Ivy and Emma Wallen lead the Lions in scoring with Ivy averaging 17 points per game and Emma averaging 14.7 points per game.

Ivy leads the Lions in total assists with 79 and Emma leads the Lions in steals with 15.

The task on Monday for North Alabama is finding a way to stop Iowa State forward Ashley Joens from having a good game. That is something that an opponent has yet to do against Joens.

Joens has scored at least ten points in all games this season and she leads the Cyclones in scoring with 24.2 points per game which is best amongst Big 12 players and second in the NCAA, only behind Rider’s Stella Johnson.

Iowa State has played seven home games this season, earning a 5-2 record in those games with their losses coming against Iowa by six points and against Northern Iowa by eight points.

North Alabama has played three road games and have a 2-1 road record. Its two road wins came against the Tennessee State Tigers by 25 points and the Alabama State Hornets by 21 points. Its lone road loss came against Iowa.

Against the Lions, the Cyclones may be without starting junior forward who has been dealing with migraines for the last couple of weeks. Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly previously stated her return could occur in early January.

Monday’s matchup is both teams final non-conference game.
