IOWA CITY – Iowa State (16-31) dropped their annual game against Iowa (15-24) Tuesday night in Iowa City.

Emma Hylen earned her tenth start of the season against the Hawkeyes. Hylen entered the game with a 4.15 ERA and 39 strikeouts.

The Cyclones grabbed momentum early, getting on the scoreboard with a sac-fly from Kaylee Bosworth to score Kelsey McFarland in the top of the second inning.

Iowa tied the game in the next inning on a sac-fly to center field to score a runner from third.

The Hawkeyes took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth when Iowa State had Havyn Monteer caught in a rundown between third base and home. The Cyclones missed the tag at home plate, giving Iowa a 2-1 advantage heading into the final inning.

The Cyclones put on their rally caps during their final at-bat, placing runners on second and third with one out. The late Iowa State push came up just short as they fell to the Hawkeyes, 2-1.

Up next, the Cyclones travel to Texas for a three-game series with the Longhorns. First pitch for game one is at 4:30 on Friday, April 21.
