Here are the top 5 stories from the weekend:
1. Haylee Young finishes run at National Championship– Haylee Young, Iowa State gymnast, finished with a score of 39.1875 at the National Championship in St. Louis. Young started the day with her best score in the floor routine. Young ended the first half of the day in 16th place in the all-around competition, but six other teams and six other individuals have to perform before she knows her official place.
2. Greek Fest takes place in Memorial Union– The fraternities and sororities of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) gathered in the Memorial Union for the annual Greek Fest celebration on Saturday. Members of the Greek community filled the Great Hall in support of the African American organizations of the NPHC, also known as the “Divine Nine.” This event was a representation of unity in the Greek community as six of the Divine Nine organizations are represented at Iowa State.
3. Cyclone softball gets first conference win– Cyclone softball received their first conference win while giving the Oklahoma State Cowgirls their first conference loss. The Cowgirls almost caught up at the end of the game but held off which allowed for the Cyclones to get the win after two previous losses to the Cowgirls. The game ended in a 10-9 win for the Cyclones.
4. Iowa State volleyball plays in spring tournament– The women played in the Iowa State Spring Tournament on Saturday and came to impress. The team only dropped one set over the entire day and over multiple different matches. They return to action on April 21 against Wisconsin in Manchester at 7 p.m.
5. Hindu Festival, Holi, takes place– The Indian Students Association hosted the festival in the recreation fields in Frederiksen Court. Holi takes place following the winter season. Many different ethnicities were invited to take part in the festival. Holi is celebrated every year at Iowa State, and 200-300 people were present at this year’s event.
