Letter: Vote Cody 4 ISU

ISD

Cody West is the best candidate for Student Body President. As the current Student Body President, I have watched Cody develop into a strong and caring leader. His passion has brought groups together and advanced initiatives important to the student experience. I would not have achieved everything I set out to do one year ago, if not for Cody West and his purposeful leadership.

He took the lead on changing the Dead Week policy, which is not as easy as it sounds. Dead Week is a faculty policy and in order to make the changes we sought, he had to scientifically collect the data about student opinions and convince the faculty senate to change its own policy. After months of meetings, overcoming challenges, and compromising with faculty members, he was able to get the new policy implemented.

He has been a partner with me on advancing medical amnesty through the state legislature, which is one of the most ambitious initiatives our Student Government has taken up in recent history. He pushes me to continue to fight for student safety initiatives every day and his platform clearly shows that student safety will continue to be a number one priority if you elect him president.

Cody is on a multitude of university and faculty committees and steps up when others will not fill the vacancies. Because of this, he has gathered a wealth of knowledge that he can utilize as your president.

Cody isn’t involved in politics. He’s not a political science major and he doesn’t have any plans to work in government. He wants to be the Student Body President because he loves this university and the people in this community. Every day, I see his passion for students and for the improvement of the student experience. This is an individual who cares and genuinely wants to make our home, here at Iowa State University, a better place for everyone.

I choose to endorse Cody West as the next Student Body President not because he is my vice president but because he has demonstrated throughout the campaign how he has been a voice for you over the past year and how he will continue to be a voice for you as president. I encourage you to Vote Cody on March 7 and 8 at vote.iastate.edu.
