Staebler qualifies for 800 finals, Luque finishes 12th in long jump at NCAAs

Jasmine Staebler kept her indoor track and field season alive Friday after recording the seventh fastest time in the preliminaries of the women’s 800-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

The Iowa State women’s middle-distance runner finished the race in 2 minutes and 5.63 seconds. Hanna Green of Virginia Tech finished first in 2:04.06. 

Staebler will run in the finals of the event at 5:20 p.m. Saturday in College Station, Texas.

Staebler’s teammate, Jhoanmy Luque, took 12th in the long jump with a 20-3 mark, earning Second Team All-America honors. 

Luque will be back in action Saturday in the triple jump, which will start at 3:30 p.m.
