A marketing campaign to promote Ames as an attractive place to relocate, raise families, work and play launched in February and targets young adults with its “Always Ames” message, according to a news release on the city’s website.

As part of the Ames City Council’s goal of promoting economic development, the campaign targets young adults transitioning to families currently living along the I-35 corridor.

Through a combination of billboards and internet marketing, the campaign showcases the dynamic, vibrant quality of life provided to Ames citizens. It highlights various Ames amenities including dozens of parks, miles of bike trails, dynamic cultural offerings, top-rated schools and the benefits of being part of a progressive, university community.

“Ames is an amazing city to start your career, be active, raise a family and grow both professionally and personally,” Susan Gwiasda, the city’s public information officer, said in the release. “Ames citizens have access to sporting events, terrific restaurants, concerts, festivals and more. Because we are a growing community, our workforce needs are increasing. There are so many opportunities here.”

The Always Ames campaign highlights growth at the ISU Research Park, as well as the excellent school districts serving residents, distinctive neighborhoods and shopping districts, and year-round recreational activities. The campaign includes testimonials from several Ames residents about why they choose to live and work in Ames, what they appreciate about the city and why they plan to stay. Also, the campaign encourages other Ames residents to share their experiences about the community by using #AlwaysAmes while on social media.

After graduating from Iowa State University in 2012, city of Ames printing services technician Derek Zarn looked locally to put his graphic design degree to work and made Ames his home. He joined the city of Ames four years ago. Working on the Always Ames campaign came naturally for Zarn because he believes Ames offers great opportunities for the millennial workforce.

“I love Ames not only for the career options I’ve had, but also because there is such vibrancy here,” Zarn said. “I’ve lived on the coast and in other communities, but I like what Ames has to offer. It’s comfortable, welcoming and energetic. We’re really happy here.”

The Always Ames campaign will continue through 2017. For more information, visit www.cityofames.org/AlwaysAmes.
