How to maximize clothes storage
Welcome to Iowa State and to your new home for the next years. Now you are here on campus and ready to move in to your new dorm. Moving in is such an exciting process that all students look forward to. Meeting your roommate, people who live in the same floor, and decorating the room. But one of the most important parts is figuring out how to fit all your clothes in the small closet you get.
At home, you get unlimited space to store all your items but in your first year at dorms that is a challenge. We collected a few tips on how to maximize clothes storage for when you move in.
- Roll your clothes and place them in order on the drawers. This method creates less bulk, makes it look more organized, and is easier to find clothes when you are in a rush.
- Organize your garments by type. Some items are less bulky than others. For example, jeans take a lot of space so you will want those out of the drawers. Shirts occupy less storage and can all be in one area.
- Use the hanger area of the closet for sweaters, dresses, and coats. These 3 garments are the ones that take more space in a closet. The items that are longer can go in the left side of the closet and shorter garments on the right side.
- Hang multiple items in one hanger. This will avoid excessive use of hangers and create more space for bulky coats that are needed for winter.
- Jeans can be hanged on the second short hanger. On the left bottom side of the closet there is short hanger that most closets have. This can be used to hang all your jeans that take space in a drawer.
These tips should have you ready for this coming semester and with an organized closet. Enjoy your new cyclone home.
