News you may have missed over the weekend

Here are some of the big news stories that you may have missed over the weekend:
Friday- 2/10
- Final police chief talks community– Thomas Phillips, final applicant for the new Iowa State University police chief, held the last open forum on Friday in hopes that he will soon be a part of the Iowa State community. Phillips believes that his biggest priorities as police chief would be the students, the campus and the community.
- Men’s track and field stays consistent in day one of the Iowa State Classic – Cyclone men took part in the 60-meter dash, 3,000-meter run, 200-meter dash and the 3,000-invitational run on the first day of the Classic on Friday.
- No. 10 Cyclone Hockey wins against No. 19 Utah – The score was already 4-0 in favor of the Cyclones before the first intermission of the game. The Cyclones kept their strong force in the remaining periods and won the match 7-0.
Saturday- 2/11
- Women’s basketball falls to No. 25 Kansas State – After a close first half, the Wildcats slowly took the lead in the second, and the Cyclones ultimately lost 80-68.
- Cyclone softball splits on second day of Louisiana Classic – The women lost their first game of the day to DePaul 3-2 but picked up their first win of the season against Southern Mississippi, 6-4.
- Matt Woods performs at DG’s Tap House– Matt Woods, guitar player and singer, performed great blues music on Saturday night.
- Jasmine Staebler becomes top 800-meter runner in ISU women’s track history – Everyone in attendance at the Iowa State Classic this weekend witnessed Staebler become the greatest 800-meter runner in Iowa State women’s track and field history. She ran a time of 2:03.08, which placed her fourth overall in the race.
- Men’s basketball wins comfortably against Oklahoma – After beating top-ranked Kansas and then losing to unranked Texas, the Cyclones needed a good home win. The Cyclones ultimately won 80-64 ,which is their biggest margin of victory in Big 12 play this season.
