Mitchell Meyers, defensive lineman for Iowa State football, wins Uplifting Athletes Award – Meyers was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in February 2015 and missed the 2015 football season as he went through chemotherapy and radiation. He returned to the field in 2016 as a football team captain. Meyers won the Rare Disease Champions award on Friday and will officially receive the reward on March 10 in Atlantic City.

Iowa State Gymnastics pulls out a win in the tri-meet on Friday night – Although the night didn’t start out as the team had hoped, the team had big scores on its beam and floor routines and ultimately won the meet with 195.775 points. Sydney Converse returned to the lineup for the first time in the 2017 season, where her positive energy led the Cyclones to a huge victory.

Former Iowa State employee charged with theft in over $68,000 of university money – Pamela Backstroke, 56, has been charged with first-degree theft and ongoing criminal conduct. She is accused of taking money from the Quantitative Nondestructive Evaluation Programs account. Backstroke is being held at Story County jail on a $75,000 bond.

Women’s basketball pulls out a huge win against No. 22 West Virginia – The Cyclones dominated throughout the whole game and ultimately won 80-55. This win moves the women to sixth place in the Big 12, which could get them a first-round bye in the Big 12 tournament in March.
- Iowa State swimming can’t catch up to the Kansas Jayhawks in a two-day meet – Although the Iowa State swimmers had some good scores throughout the weekend, they just couldn’t keep up with the Jayhawks in this Big 12 conference dual meet, and the Jayhawks left with the win.

Men’s basketball pulls out the biggest win of the season, beating No. 3 Kansas in overtime – The Cyclones were down by 15 at the half but tied it up at 82 in the second half to push the game into overtime. The Cyclones crushed the Allen Fieldhouse pressure and a pulled out a huge win against the Jayhawks, beating them 92-89.
