The first day of the 26th annual Iowa State Classic didn’t fall short on highlights from the women’s track and field events. Here is a by-the-numbers rundown of the day:

245 – Number of women’s track and field athletes who competed (started and finished event).

35 – Number of collegiate teams represented in competition.

9 – Number of top-10 finishes by Iowa State women’s track and field athletes.

7 – Number of Iowa State women’s track and field personal records (PRs).

4 – Number of additions to ISU top-10 all-time performances.

2 – Number of event wins by Iowa State women’s track and field athletes.

1 – Number of times Iowa State women’s track and field athletes swept the top three spots in an event.

Iowa State women’s track and field highlights

1-2-3 sweep in women’s long jump

Junior Jhoanmy Luque led the Cyclones in the long jump with the top mark of 20 feet 5.25 inches. Freshman Carsyn Spurgeon and senior Allanah McCorkle followed with second- and third-place performances, respectively, rounding out a 1-2-3 effort for Iowa State.

Lowry’s PR and event win in the open 3,000-meter run

Senior Maryn Lowry’s 9:50.28 time in the open 3,000-meter run was not only a personal best but also was the top time in her section.

Whigham records fourth fastest time in ISU history in 200-meter dash

Sophomore Emma Whigham jumped to fourth in the ISU record books for the 200-meter dash, placing sixth overall. Her 24.50 time was 0.32 seconds faster than her previous personal best in the event.

Guay moves to seventh in ISU record book for the mile

Junior Evelyne Guay’s personal-record time of 4:42.41 in the mile puts her seventh all time in ISU history for the event.

Day two of the Iowa State Classic will kick off at noon Saturday.
