There are many reasons why one might not go to the gym to workout. Whether you cannot afford a gym membership, have no transportation there, or do not feel comfortable being seen at the gym.

However, there are always various alternatives to going to the gym, and using gym equipment. Here are just a few that will help give you some ideas the next time you want to workout, but the gym is not an option.

Going for a walk or run

According to Money Crashers, this is such an easy way to get a great workout without spending any money at all. This requires no equipment. All you have to do is go outside and get moving.

If you are not well experienced doing much physical fitness, start small with a short walk. Then you can work your way up to running a couple miles a day.

Exercise videos are a fun way to get a quality workout, and most times it doesn’t even feel like you are working out.

You can find a variety of different exercise videos online for free. They require no equipment at all, and there are many varieties depending on what types of exercise you are looking for.

Circuit Training

Circuit training is all about fast, repetitive movements. This includes, but is not limited to, jumping jacks, squats, burpees, push-ups etc.

According to Buzzfeed, “short periods of intense exercise can be just as effective- sometimes more so- than longer workouts that you do with moderate effort.”

There are various workout ideas on Buzzfeed, but you can also come up with your own. Remember to keep things interesting and new by incorporating new movements every so often.

There are so many alternatives to going to a standardized gym to get a good workout. There are absolutely no excuses to not be active regardless of whether or not you have a gym membership, or any equipment.
