Ames Police investigate armed robbery at Casey’s on Duff Avenue
February 3, 2017
The Ames Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place Thursday around 9:55 p.m. at Casey’s General Store on 3020 South Duff Avenue.
According to police, two black males entered the store, one of them wielding a gun, and demanded money from the store’s clerk. The suspects left the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. No injuries were reported.
Both suspects wore ski masks. The male with the gun was described as a medium complexion black male who possibly had freckles. He wore a dark colored sweatshirt with the hood up, blue jeans and black tennis shoes with white soles, per the release.
The other male was wearing wearing a hooded sweatshirt that had dark colored sleeves and a light center with the hood up. He also wore blue jeans and black and white Converse All-Star shoes.
Commander Geoff Huff of the Ames PD said that there is no on-going threat to the community, but he urged people to be vigilant. The Ames PD has not been able to identify either of the suspects, but Huff is optimistic.
“This [robbery] happened a bit earlier than past robberies we’ve had at convenience stores,” Huff said. “This one was a little before 10 p.m., which is pretty unusual, but we suspect there may have been other people in the area given the time that it happened.”
