The Cyclones grabbed their third consecutive win in rout over Kansas, 90-75 on Tuesday at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas.

Iowa State (15-11, 6-9 Big 12) came into the game against Kansas (8-18, 2-13 Big 12) with wins in three of its last four matchups and desperately seeking another win to help their chances of making the NCAA Tournament — something analysts say is still possible.

The outcome of this game was never in doubt for the Cyclones, however, as the team never trailed throughout the entire game.

This one didn’t get started the way most games have been going this year. The first nine points for the Cyclones were scored by sophomore forward Meredith Burkhall. Burkhall averages eight points a game and rattled off nine within the first three minutes tonight. She led the team in scoring with 20 points also grabbing eight rebounds.

As a team, Iowa State shot 57 percent from the field (30-53) and 67 percent form 3 point range (10-15).

Nine players recorded points in the stat book for the Cyclones. Five players finished with double figures, including big performances from Seanna Johnson and Emily Durr, who scored 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Normally a big producer for the Cyclones, sophomore Bridget Carleton, was held to just 10 points on 3-8 shooting. Carleton saw limited minutes early, picking up two personal fouls in the first quarter.

In their last meeting the Cyclones held the Jayhawks leading scorer, Jessica Washington, to just four points. Although Washington finished the game tonight with 36 points, the next highest Jayhawk had just eight points.

This win keeps Iowa State tied for fifth place in the Big 12 standings with West Virginia with just two regular season games and the conference tournament remaining.
