The Vinyl Vagabonds performed at DG’s Tap House on Saturday night.

I found myself smiling, dancing and just having a fun time through every moment of the Vinyl Vagabonds’ performance on Saturday night at DG’s Tap House.

The band was greeted with a big welcome from a sizable crowd right when they played their first note during a warm up.

Blues, rock, soul and R+B were the main genres that the band stuck to. Sometimes, they would mix two styles into one song and when they did, it always felt like they were doing something unique and of their own.

Most of their set consisted of covers, and every time they played a song I recognized, I was always interested to hear what they were going to do with it. “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?,” “Let’s Get it On,” and “Angel From Montgomery” were a few of their covers that really stuck out to me.

They are all wonderful performers as well. Each of them seem to really love and care about their performance. While watching them, I could tell that they were well-rehearsed and that they took the gig seriously, but at the same time it looked like they were all relaxed and having fun.

Mook Bascomb led the vocals in most of the music, and harmonica player Jeff Hart also lent his voice to several songs. The two of them had a very interesting dynamic when singing together, and when guitar player Kent Johnson added in his voice, something even greater was created. All three of the band members had different singing styles, yet they fit together in harmony.

The Vinyl Vagabonds really knew how to get a crowd into the music as well. All of them were dancing and jiving with the music. In a way, they let their body run wild with the tunes. I think their excitement inspired others to get out and dance. The floor in front of the stage saw crowd members on it moving to the beat all night.

The band played two sets, and as the night went on it seemed like their energy elevated. Because of that, I felt that the second set was even better than the first. By the time the show was almost done, they all still looked excited and energetic.

Most of their songs were fast-paced ones with a punch, but every once in a while, they would slow down to play a softer one. When this happened, I felt just as invested. The Vinyl Vagabonds knew how to create all kinds of emotion with different types of music.

The band closed with an original work entitled, “Blues News,” which was a fun tribute song the blues genre. I adored their covers, but it was also great to hear something they created themselves, and I would love to hear more original songs from them in the future.

At the end of the night, The Vinyl Vagabonds left me feeling happy and excited. If you are looking for a fun, exciting and upbeat local show to attend, this band has all of those aspects in their performance.
