Men’s golf up two spots in second day at PGA West

Day two of the Prestige at the PGA West in La Quinta, California, is now in the past, and the Iowa State men’s golf team is up two places tied for third with a score 571 (288-283). The Cyclones are tied with No.14 San Diego State.

Day two ended with Senior Nick Voke tied for third place in the individual scoring. He began the day even with the par and scored six birdies and two eagles to finish four under par.

Along with him is fellow senior Ruben Sondjaja, who ended the day two below par. He started the day a bit over the par but finishing his second round with four birdies. He is currently tied for sixth place.

Freshman Sam Vincent continued to progress in this competition. Vincent finished the day with six birdies and for the first six holes stayed within par to help elevate the cyclones.

“[I’m] happy with how the team played today. We put ourselves in a good position heading into the final round,” head coach Andrew Tank said.

The Cyclones are not far off first place. No. 16 LSU is in the lead, and is only two strokes above Iowa State and San Diego State.

“Our goal tomorrow will be to stay patient and focus on our own games and have fun,” Tank said.

The tournament will resume tomorrow for the final round of the Prestige at PGA West.
