Iowa State wins third straight game
February 18, 2017
The Cyclones extended their successful stretch of games Saturday.
Iowa State (17-9, 9-5 Big 12) beat TCU (18-9, 6-7 Big 12) 84-71 at Hilton Coliseum, securing its third consecutive victory and its fourth in the last five games.
Iowa State and TCU started the game with three straight possessions. That would be a tell-tale sign of things to come early in the first half.
The Horned Frogs and Cyclones combined for 21 turnovers in the first half — 14 for TCU and seven for Iowa State. While the Cyclones struggled to capitalize on the mistakes — scoring just 11 points off them — they jumped out a big lead thanks to a late 16-1 run.
Naz Mitrou-Long had 15 points in the first 20 minutes to help Iowa State go into halftime with a 39-29 lead.
Iowa State continued its hot shooting into the second half, shooting 53.6 percent in the last 20 minutes. TCU managed to hang around, though, and stayed within double digits for most of the second half.
But the Cyclones’ shooting was just too much, as they cruised to a win.
Monte Morris had another impressive game, grabbing a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists.
