The College of Business’ motto for the career fair is “dress to impress.”

“The key is that once you are working with an organization, you are aware of their specific dress policies and follow them,” said Meredith Williams, director of Business Career Services. “[It varies per company]. Sometimes dress pants are appropriate without a jacket, it just depends.”

At the career fair, Williams pointed out, “It is always safer to be dressier than casual.”

Women are advised to wear a navy, black or dark gray suit. They can also wear a knee-length skirt if desired. The shirt/blouse should be white or a light color.

Men are advised to wear a dark suit with a white or light-colored shirt and a clean, simple tie.

Attendees are warned not to wear shorts, t-shirts, flip-flops, jeans, sneakers and hoodies.

Williams said, “When you are dressing professionally you want to be remembered for what you said and what skills you have rather than what you are wearing. That is why black or gray are recommended for colors.”
