The Women’s March on Washington is set to take place this Saturday, January 21st.

Originating as a Facebook post in response to the results of the 2016 election, the march quickly gained national attention. 200,000 people are expected to attend the march, set in Washington D.C.

Many veteran civil rights activists are leading the event, with Gloria Steinem serving as an honorary co-chair.

The official website of the march says, “The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights. We stand together, recognizing that defending the most marginalized among us is defending all of us.”

A sister march is scheduled in Des Moines on the 21st. Taking place at 11AM, the march begins at Finkbine Drive and ends at the northwest entrance of the Iowa capitol, totaling 0.42 miles.

A program including speakers and entertainers will begin at 12:30, with an estimated ending time scheduled for 3pm.

Anyone is welcome to attend the march, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.
