Pair of track and field athletes record top 10 marks in nation

Sophomore Jasmine Staebler and junior Jhoanmy Luque recorded top 10 marks in the nation in the 800-meter run and triple jump, respectively, over the weekend.

Staebler’s first-place 2:04.81 time in her race at the PSU National Open was more than a second and a half faster than her previous personal best in the 800. The time puts her second in Iowa State history in the event. 

Luque took first place in the triple jump at the Black and Gold Premier in Iowa City, also recording a personal-best 44-foot-6.25-inch jump in the event. The mark puts her second in Iowa State history.

Junior Evelyne Guay joined Staebler in competition at the PSU National Open. She took third in the mile in 4:43.54.

The Cyclones will next compete at the Husker Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.
