Fashion Alert: For all you college students on a tight budget looking for a way to hype up your style; here is a DIY for you.
If you have paid any attention to recent trends, magazines, or have been out shopping in the last couple of months you have probably noticed the latest “got to have,” patched jeans and jean jackets.
Take a look at Forever21. Right now this particular store has hundreds of searches regarding patched jeans and jean jackets selling anywhere from $40.00-$80.00. From research most women have around 3-4 classic jean jackekts/denim shirts hanging in their closet.
At this point, in many college student’s lives, jeans and jean jackets are a popular item in the closet because of the iconic value. Jeans are known as a classic apparel item. Unlike a trend, which is apparel/items that fastly move in and out of style, jeans are a classic piece that have been around for centuries and aren’t going anywhere.
Bored on a Sunday and want to make your jean jacket unique to you? This DIY is perfect for students on a budget and for wearers who enjoy to be different and step outside of the box. Instead of buying what your jacket or jeans say about you, you get to personalize it the way that speaks to you.
First step:
Go into your closet and find a denim jacket that has been put to use, is your favorite, or you would love for it to have a new makeover.
Second step:
Check out Ragstock, Urban Outfitters, Walmart, Micheals, or any patch company online and pick out buttons and patches that interest you. Not only are they extremely affordable but you can personlize your jacket by what you like, color, and texture. For example, most patches from Ragstock range from 25 cents to $5.00.
Third step:
Pick up a small hand sewing kit, unless you already have one and check out a Youtube video for a quick “how to sew” if you need help or tips. Or, you could purchase iron on patches which are availible as well.
Fourth step:
Make your jacket fabulous, feel great about not spending much money at all, and make your wardrobe personal to you while also joining in on a hot trend.
