Fashion highlights from inauguration day

Despite murmurs that Melania Trump may be the first to not wear an American designer at her husband’s presidential inauguration (partially due to preference for European designers and partially due to designers refusing to clothe her), she stepped into the eyes (and cameras) of history in Ralph Lauren on Friday and promptly sent Twitter on a firestorm.

Former model Melania Trump, now First Lady Melania Trump, accompanied her husband on Inauguration Day in a pale blue dress, coat and gloves.

A quick comparison was drawn between beloved former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and the new first lady, who said in an interview almost 20 years ago that if her husband became president she would be “traditional. Like Betty Ford or Jackie Kennedy.”

Some have also pointed out that the pale blue fits in well with the costuming of the Beauxbaton girls in the fourth Harry Potter movie.

Nobody warned former First Lady Barbara Bush that light blue would be Melania’s color, as she accompanied her husband in a lighter shade.

Trump’s daughters, Ivanka and Tiffany, attended the inauguration in white.

Donald Trump’s former campaign opponent, former First Lady Hillary Clinton also wore white to the inauguration — and sported the same designer as First Lady Melania Trump.

Even Trump’s campaign manager made headlines with what she called “Trump Revolutionary” wear, a Gucci coat inspired by the city of London that was compared to the costumes of the Broadway musical “Hamilton.”
