Pride Week
April 15, 2016
Pride week is here at Iowa State University and with that comes many activities and speakers. Some of these include the keynote speaker, Angelica Ross, who is the founder of the TransTech Social Enterprises. This company helps empower transgender and gender nonconforming people in training about jobs and leadership roles. She wants everyone to know that the LGBT community deserves respect, love, and to understand your worth. Some other events that occurred this week was the inclusion in the workplace, Fighting Burrito Fundraiser, LGBTA Alliance meeting, safe zone 101 training, and grad school 101. This week has been a great one for many people with a schedule packed full of events and to help educate and raise awareness on the community.
To end pride week, here at Iowa State there will be the drag dash in front of Beardshear Hall from noon to three. A portion of the proceeds will indeed go to and support The Trevor Project, which is a non profit organization focused on suicide prevention among the LGBT community. This drag dash is hosted by the Gamma Rho Lambda and everyone is welcome. Here you will learn of the culture by hearing information and the history of “drag.” There will be prizes for the fastest, best dressed king, and queen.
