Armed robbery reported at Iowa State West Apartments, police looking for suspects with assault rifle

An ISU Alert was issued at 5:44 p.m. stating that police were unable to locate the robbery suspects at this time and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
Aaron Delashmutt, interim assistant vice president and chief of police, said that after receiving no further reports, they believe that the robbery may have been an isolated incident.
However, Delashmutt said that they will have officers continually patrolling the area for the time being.
The suspects, five black male adults, forcibly entered the apartment at about 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon. There were two males in the apartment at the time, Delashmutt said.
Delashmutt said that while they feel there is no ongoing threat to the community, that if anyone feels unsafe tonight, they are encouraged to take advantage of the safety escort program the police provide.

Iowa State Police have released new details of the armed robbery.
ISU PD received a report that five black male adults had entered an apartment at 4709 Steinbeck St., according to a press release. One male, who was observed holding what appeared to be an assault rifle, told the residents to get down while the other four males quickly went through the apartment and took and undisclosed about of cash and a cell phone.
All five males are believed to be between the ages of 18 and 20, with height ranging from 5 foot 6 inches to 6 foot 2 inches, according to police. One male was described as wearing a blue hoodie and gray sweatpants. The other males were wearing dark clothing.
The suspects left on foot, east toward South Dakota Avenue. Police continue to investigate and search for suspects.

Iowa State has released updated information on the suspects.
The suspects are five black males, ages 18-20. They were hearing hoodies and dark clothing. One of the individuals was carrying a rifle.

An ISU Alert was issued at about 4:25 p.m. Thursday saying there was an armed robbery at Iowa State West Apartments.
The alert said five male suspects, one with a weapon, entered a student’s apartment at 4709 Steinbeck, in west Ames near Mortensen Road, taking cash and cell phones.
Though no one was injured, the suspects headed east and are still unidentified and at large, according to the alert.
