Cyclones split series with North Dakota State
March 26, 2016
Iowa State (14-14, Big 12) played its first two outdoor home games on a rainy Saturday afternoon against North Dakota State (18-12, Summit League).
In the 1st game, Cyclones starter Savannah Sanders pitched excellent for the first 5 innings, not allowing a single run. But in the sixth inning the Bison would score four times, with Sanders allowing a three-run home run.
Iowa State would push across one run in the bottom of the 6th, but that was it as the North Dakota State’s starter Jacquelyn Sertic would go the distance.
In the second game, the ISU had more success on the offensive end, winning 7-2 in five innings due to weather.
Emma Hylen would take the mound for the Cyclones, who only allowed 2 runs off of two hits and would hold the Bison in check all game.
It was Sammie Hildreth who brought the offense back to life, crushing two 3-run-home-runs in the 4th and 5th inning to give her team the lead over NDSU.
From there, the weather would start to worsen and the game was concluded two inning early.
