Iowa State softball has endured hardship this weekend after dropping their third straight game Sunday morning.

The Cyclones held a close 1-0 lead going into the seventh inning against Cal State Fullerton (17-8, 0-0 Big West) before giving up two runs on a triple to right field. Iowa State did not answer back and would fall 2-1.

Iowa State struck early at the bottom of the second inning when freshman first baseman Kaylee Bosworth batted in senior catcher Sammie Hildreth to go up 1-0.

The Cyclones held on tightly to that lead through the play of freshman pitcher Savannah Sanders.

Sanders allowed only five hits and had a pair of swinging strikeouts in the 6.2 innings that she pitched. Sanders was able to allow the Iowa State defense to make the play as Cal State Fullerton went with a single hit in the fifth and sixth inning.

The seventh inning started out with two quick outs for the Iowa State defense. But with a double to right field and error Cal State was able to put  a runner on third. Sanders then walked the next batter.

With runners on the corner Sanders was subbed out for freshman Emma Hylen.

Hylen was unable to do damage control as she gave up a triple to right field allowing Cal State Fullerton to score two.

Iowa State would be unable to answer back as they went three and out to end the game.

Iowa State will be traveling to Fort Myers, Florida, to play in the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament on Friday.
