Music videos with a message

Over the weekend, Beyonce joined the ranks of artists who have used their musical platform to highlight big issues in our world and society. Looking back on history there has been a number of artists who’ve done this, from a multitude of genres. Here is a list of music videos that have a message:
1) Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – Same Love: The pop/rap duo used their music video Same Love to highlight marriage equality. Marriage equality has become a highly discussed topic in countries around the world. The music video was directed by Ryan Lewis and Jon Jon Augustavo.
2) Ludacris featuring Mary J. Blige- Runaway Love: In Runaway Love, Ludacris highlights the struggles of at-risk youth who are in trouble and/or away from home. Ludacris partnered with the National Runaway Swithboard to bring attention to this issue and help youth get the proper resources. The music video featured Mary J. Blige and was directed by Jessy Terrero. Runaway Love was released under Def Jam Records.
3) Rage Against The Machine – Testify: The Testify music video explored a wide variety of topics that are relevant to our society. One topic in general that was explored was the dependency on oil. The video was directed by Michael Moore and released under Epic Records/Sony Music Entertainment.
4) Hozier – Take Me To Church: In the Take Me To Church music video they explore the discrimination and violence that is perputrated against the LGBT community. The music video was directed by Brendan Canty and Conal Thomson. The song was released under independent label Rubyworks.
