Logan, Utah – The (5-1) Iowa State Cyclones tennis team was off to a great start this weekend as they took a 5-0 victory over(1-3) Idaho State. Although the Cyclones were without a key player, they managed to it pull together and get a win.

Going into this weekend’s trifecta duels, the Cyclones were without senior Anna Kuuttila which made coach Armando Espinosa, unsure of how well his double players would do. Surprisingly, Samantha Budai and Liza Buss would get the momentum going for the Cyclones. They took a 6-3 victory over Wiebke Boeckmann and Nonie Alexandersen. Alejandra Galvis and Annabella Bonadonna followed them with a 6-3 win over Laura Theus and Svenja Tegmeier, which secured the doubles point for the Cyclones. 1-0.

This momentum carried over into singles play. Liz Buss got the second point for the Cyclones with her win her 6-2, 6-1 win over Idaho State’s Kasey Bacon. Regina Espindola followed her up  by defeating Nonie Alexandersen 6-4, 6-2. Then Alejandra Galvis was the last to finish for the Cyclones. She took a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Wiebke Boeckmann.

Action begins tomorrow at 3 P.M. Iowa State will take on (2-1) Utah State tomorrow at 3. P.M, If the Cyclones Can manage a win tomorrow, then there is no reason they can’t finish 3-0 for the weekend.

An early 7-1 record could be a difference maker when the Cyclones meet against rival UNI.  But first, they must finish the weekend on a high note, and like coach Espinosa always says, “One match at a time.”
