Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska and the GOP’s 2008 vice presidential nominee, is set to endorse Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during his rally at Iowa State University Tuesday, his campaign announced Tuesday.

Palin, who has remained largely out of the political scene in 2016, is well liked among conservative Republicans, especially after her outspoken criticism of President Obama and establishment Republicans.

Palin first landed on the national political scene during the 2008 presidential election, when U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., the GOP’s nominee, selected her as his running mate. Palin served as governor from 2006 until her resignation in 2009.

The New York Times was first to report on the endorsement. NBC News followed with reporting Tuesday afternoon, and the campaign confirmed the endorsement shortly after 3:30 p.m.

“I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States of America,” Palin said in a campaign statement.

The endorsement during his rally at ISU comes with less than two-weeks to go until Iowa casts the first votes of the presidential election cycle on Feb. 1.

“I am greatly honored to receive Sarah’s endorsement,” Trump said in a campaign statement. “She is a friend, and a high quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support.”

Trump’s event at Iowa State is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center, south of ISU’s central campus. Those wishing to attend can get required tickets for free at TrumpAmes.Eventbrite.com.

Trump’s campaign has been publicizing the event for several days now, and the campaign sent an email to supporters over the weekend hyping a “very special guest” and a “special announcement” at the event.
