One of the most frustating things as a college student is getting sick during the school year. On top of having homework, lectures, jobs and other commitments an illness is the last thing anyone would want to worry about. Here are some tips for taking care of yourself:

Stay Hydrated – Staying hydrated is an important part of getting better. Keeping hydrated thins out your mucus which helps drain your sinuses faster. Water, juice, soup are just a few things to drink (eat) to keep hydrated.

Get plenty of sleep – While college student usually get around 6-7 hours of sleep, when you are sick it is good to get a lot more sleep. Getting a few extra hours of sleep can help your immune system fight off whatever virus you might have.

Communicate – If you are going to miss a class or another activity for a doctors appointment or because you are not feeling well, let someone know. Ask a classmate or friend to copy the notes for you or let the professor know you are going to absent and follow up with him/her about the material you missed.

Use good judgement – One of the worst things you can do is ignore the signs that you are not getting better. So when you are doing of all the necessary things to get better and it is not helping, it is time to see a professional.
