2016 Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will be in Ames on Monday to attend a local Republican breakfast.

Details about the event, which is open to the public but requires tickets, are below.

WHO: Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, 2016 Republican presidential candidate

WHAT: Story County GOP Breakfast

WHEN: Monday, Jan. 4, 2016

WHERE: Oakwood Road Church, 2400 Oakwood Road, Ames

TICKETS: Those wishing to attend should contact Story County GOP Chair Brett Barker at (309) 945-2110 for tickets, which are $8, and will benefit the Story County Republican party.

Huckabee, who won the 2008 Iowa Caucus, has struggled to catch on this cycle. An average of Iowa polls compiled by Real Clear Politics shows Huckabee averaging just 2.3 percent — well behind several other GOP candidates.

He acknowledged last week that he must do well in Iowa to continue on, telling WHO radio in Des Moines that if he does not finish in the top three, he may drop out of the race.

“If we can’t come within striking distance of the victory or win it, then I think we recognize that it’s going to be hard to take that onto the other states,” he told host Simon Conway.

Huckabee’s appearance in Ames is part of a three-day tour of the first-in-the-nation voting state. He’ll also appear in Winterset, Indianola, Pella, Newton, Urbandale and Ogden.
