Holiday appetizer loved by young and old

Erin Dungan

With holiday gatherings approaching quickly, it’s time to start planning. This pecan-coated cheese ball is a party favorite by both young and old. This appetizer is simple, yet delicious and can be changed slightly to fit specific preferences.

Prep time: 15 minutes

Total time: 3 hours

Servings: 16 servings, 2 tablespoons each

Ingredients:

1 pound of cream cheese, at room temperature

8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, finely grated (about 2 ½ cups)

1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Ground pepper

1 cup finely chopped pecans (or other preference)

Directions:

In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat cream cheese with cheddar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and a generous pinch of pepper until well combined. Mix in ¼ cup of pecans. Cover cheese mixture with plastic wrap, and chill at least 2 ½ hours or up to overnight.

Divide the cheese mixture in half, and shape each half into a ball. Spread the remaining ¾ cup of pecans on a plate. Roll the cheese balls in the pecans until they are coated entirely, pressing the nuts to adhere. Serve the cheese ball chilled with carrot and celery sticks, crackers or pretzels.

Enjoy!
